Is it just me, but are there better ways of spending a couple of hours than listening to Glenn Hoddle talking English (Jim, but not as we know it) and watching England do what they do best?

In 1990 and 1996 I really did have something better to do, but my recollection of 1966 is that the first game against Uruguay was awful and the commentators were not slow to say that England would have to improve a great deal.Mick Norris wrote: I liked the "we didn't win the first game in 1966, 1990 or 1996" bit

The approved way of following test match cricket was to watch with the sound off whilst listening to TMS - unfortunately digital radio ruined that too.
