Premier League Fantasy Football 2017-18

Post by Neil Graham » Mon Jul 31, 2017 2:47 pm

"What, has this thing appeared again tonight?" Shakespeare (William not Craig).

Yes it's back - Premier League Fantasy Football - and if you played last year you're in this year!! Kick-off on Friday 11th August and improve on Klopp, Wenger and the like.

If you haven't played before this year's joining code is 1506967-360799.

One rule - no pseudonyms please for managers! Watch out for weekly updates in this thread!

Well folks we're off - after just one match both Graham Mill-Wilson and Lawrence Cooper are quick off the blocks by making Jamie Vardy their captain.

Most of the rest of us are still floundering around on one point or none at all. Still time to enter and a full round up in due course.

Loz - can you talk us through the thinking of an Arsenal fan who captains Vardy at the Emirates in week 1?

I've always picked my team like that. It provides some meagre crumbs of comfort if things go wrong and (hopefully) avoids jinxing the Arsenal players. I'm glad I decided to bench the Leicester defender though.

Picking both of the Chelsea players who got red carded wasn't exactly the start I was hoping for.

Week One

"We have seen better days" Timon of Athens Act 4, Scene 2. Or possibly Antonio Conte after Saturday?

This season we will be featuring quotes from Shakespeare (William not Craig) or possibly the other way round with reference to Premier League Performance.

Well here we go for those who chose Hegazi (West Brom) and Zanka (Huddersfield) or possibly not for those who selected Shelvey (Newcastle) or Fabregas (Chelsea). As usual we show the top five in Premier Chess who after Week 1 are:-

1 Misery loves Kompany Paul Cooksey 94
2 Left is Best Steven Smith 84
2 Top of the Klopps Andrew Garside 84
4 Crouch > Lukaku Alex Bullen 81
5 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 79

Team name of the week .... picked out for Abba fans - Voulez-Vous...Zaha or Knowing you....Zaha. Unfortunately Zaha is long term injured and Fernando has moved to Galatasaray so maybe no more Abba based team names?

Week 2

"Two-Three or not Two-Three" not Shakespeare but Slavan Bilic. Sorry Slavan it certainly was and with West Ham currently bottom with null points are his managerial days numbered?

It was a week where there were no high scores and indeed few low scores in the League - Joe Friar topped with 65 points whilst Dave Ledger was bottom of the pile with 22 points. No significant changes as well in League position

1 Left is Best Steven Smith 59 143
2 Top of the Klopps Andrew Garside 55 139
3 Misery loves Kompany Paul Cooksey 41 131
4= Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 48 127
4= Check This Richard Pert 49 127
4= Zugzwang Thomas Rendle 52 127

A remarkable lack of originality this year for team names - Pleased to Michu is about four years too late!

Week 3

“Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus Julius Caesar Act 1, Scene 2.

Yes Lawrence Cooper is heading the League after three weeks!! High Score of the week from Simon Brown with 82 points. Newcomer Adam Bremner is straight in at number five whilst another new competitor Angus Macgregor has the low score. This brings us on nicely to discuss bottom marker Nick London's team selections. Last year Nick delighted us with an assortment of players who never appeared on the pitch and nobody had ever heard of which meant that at the season's end his team had firmly established itself at the foot of the table. This year's Pick from Nick includes Brandon Mason (Watford) and Josh Tymon (Stoke) who to date have not shown up at all. The Stoke player has been selected by 0.0% of managers so possibly he is unique to Nick's team?

1 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 76 203
2 GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 81 200
3 Top of the Klopps Andrew Garside 56 195
4 Ramblas IV Simon Brown 82 187
5 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 49 185

Team name of the week Rooney Tunes - possibly the Road to Hell?

Week 4

Hubble Bubble, Toil and trouble
Frank de Boer goes at the double
[Macbeth Act IV Scene 1 (or perhaps Manfred Mann)]?

In a dramatic turnaround last week's high scorers became this week's low scorers and vice-versa. Angus MacGregor who was bottom of the pile in Week 3 became top scorer in Week 4 with 78 points with several teams in the mid-twenties. Adam Bremner moves to the head of the Leader board with Andrew Harley now ominously into 6th place.

Just back from my hols and written in haste - someone has put a Friday night match in again when I wasn't expecting it! :x

3 Top of the Klopps Andrew Garside 37 232

Week 5

"You pay a great deal too dear for what's given freely". - (A Winter's Tale Act I, Scene I). Diego Costa moves on loan to Athletico Madrid.

Paul Cooksey roars back to the top of the League Board with the week's high score of 97 points. Nick London low scores on 27 assisted by Robert Snodgrass who is on loan to Aston Villa all season - so not a wise choice. Meanwhile it's time to play my wildcard after the abysmal start to the season.

Week 6

What fates impose, that men must needs abide;
It boots not to resist both wind and tide.
Or go to Amsterdam for a taxi ride
Henry VI Act 4 Scene 3 - amended by Sergio Aguero

Well folks out came that wild card - Kane (13 pts). Alli (8 pts), Bellerin (8 pts), Daniels (6 pts), Hernandez (5 pts) and a few others were replaced in Week 6. Let's hope I can move onto Page 1 some time! An impressive 96 points from John Wrench top scored for the week - just short of the magic three figures; low score of 35 for Alana Deyes team Pjanic at the disco. In our efforts to be all inclusive here's some info Panic! at the Disco is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2004 and featuring the current lineup of vocalist Brendon Urie, accompanied on tour by bassist Dallon Weekes, guitarist Kenneth Harris and drummer Dan Pawlovich. Meanwhile Paul Cooksey still tops the League.

3 Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 77 359
4 Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 64 356
5 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 75 354

Finally welcome to Game of Throw-Ins - a new team for Week 7 from John Sargent.

Week 7

A rather hasty report so apologies that the usual features/commentary are curtailed. Top scorer of the week was Robert Ashworth whose team Despicable Mee scored 82 points courtesy of triple points for Harry Kane. Backmarker was James Friar whose team For Fuchs Ake scored a miserly 27 points.

Top five as follows :-

1 Misery loves Kompany Paul Cooksey 51 437
2 GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 69 432
3 Heavy up Top XI Mike Swanwick 81 428
4 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 71 425
5 Poisoned Prawns Stuart Iles 76 421

Big scorers from 2016-17 Gareth Yeo and Andrew Harley sit ominously on 6th & 7th places.

Week 8

"I’m obviously very pleased to be in the role permanently." - Craig Shakespeare July 2017
Put out the light and then put out the light - Othello Act 5, Scene 2

Well so much for the Shakespeare quotes - he lasted just eight matches. I'll be starting Ronald Koeman quotes next week as his departure looks increasingly imminent. Meanwhile despite fielding both Morgan and Vardy (two points each), Lawrence Cooper top scores with 75 points and no surprise that our bottom marker is Nick London with 21 points. Gareth Yeo and Andrew Harley are into the top five; another of the 2016-17 front runners Sam Herring looks to join them - Paul Cooksey though is still lone leader.

1. Paul Cooksey Misery loves Kompany 58 495
2 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 58 483

4 Wrenchester United John Wrench 51 463
5= Suicide Squad Gareth Yeo 40 460
5= Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 41 460

The team in Number 1 overall position is Akul XI - run, not surprisingly, by someone called Akul from India. Points garnered to date are 592!
