Premier League Fantasy Football 2018-19

Post by Neil Graham » Thu Jul 19, 2018 7:30 pm

Forget Unai Emery and Mauricio Sarri - now's the chance to become a real Premier League manager and challenge Andrew Harley - the Premier Chess Fantasy Football top manager for the last two seasons.

With the kick-off just three weeks away you can join with the code 652881-143616 if you are a new player; if you were in the League last year there is automatic entry once your team is selected.

One simple rule - just one team per manager and real identities for managers - no pseudonyms.

A swift reminder that we are now less than a week away from kick-off - so prospective managers need to get their teams on the pitch by Friday evening to avoid missing Week 1.

Week One

"These are pretty seasoned Brazilian teams, these days...these are not just beach boys from Copacabana." - Clive Tyldesley,

Bearing in mind the first week's results below we're going to have fun, fun, fun for the season. Wouldn't it be nice to report that last years backmarkers Alana and Nick were with us this year - but unfortunately they're not so we'll be looking for new heroes and villains for 2018-19. In Week One we already have a 100+ score from Richard Beach whilst Mitchell Burke was the tail ender on 27 points. Can Richard break away from the pack or can Andrew Harley do it again? More next time provided I get around to it!

1 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 104 104
2 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 96 96
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 93 93
4 Disco Barry's 3rd XI Adam Bremner 92 92
5= Bayer Neverlusen Sam Herring 87 87
5= Frying High Joe Friar 87 87

Team name of the week Lots of good ones to pick from we like Sane Mane Happy Days from Paul Spiller.

Week 2

"An accumulation of mistakes and punishments with goals was giving happiness and confidence to Brighton. Jose Mourinho

It took 10 weeks last season for a team to accumulate a 100 point score - but Richard Beach has achieved this for a second consecutive week and, of course, is the top scorer in Week 2. God only knows, I'll run out of Beach Boys references if the same thing happens next week so I hope someone can wipe out Richard's lead. Richard's score of 110 points puts him in 198th place in the overall stats. There were no good vibrations for James Redburn who had the low score of the week of 31 points which also puts him in 76th and last place.

1 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 110 214
2 Disco Barry's 3rd XI Adam Bremner 93 185
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 87 180
4 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 93 178
5 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 78 174

Team name of the week Several variations on Schürrle Not or Don'tcallme Schürrle

Week 3

“I am the manager of one of the greatest clubs in the world but I am also one of the greatest managers in the world,”
Jose Mourinho. We wait and see!!

Firstly in answer to Lawrence's query - no admissions on Richarlison though as I write this 993,266 managers have transferred him out this week! The League has a very retro look already as our top managers from seasons past show why they know what they're doing and the rest of us don't. So top score of the week from Andrew Harley with 83 points whilst three players tied for the low score with 32 points including Barry Redburn which makes an unwanted family double with the Week 2 low scorer. Finally a late - but huge welcome - to Nick London this week. Whilst in a creditable mid-table position, once again we are confounded with Nick's picks - as his defence partnership of Ashley Darel Jazz Richards (that's one player) and Yohan Benalouane have yet to grace the Premier League with an appearance this season - total minutes played to date - nil!

1 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 56 270
2 Check This Richard Pert 68 234
3 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 54 232
4 Disco Barry's 3rd XI Adam Bremner 44 229
5= Harley Whites Andrew Harley 83 223
5= For Richer For Moura Michael Ashworth 50 223

Team name of the week for you Arsenal fans Takin the Mkhitaryan.

Week 4

"I am the normal one" Jurgen Klopp

Congratulations to Eldar Alizada who is top of the shops with his score of 83 points this week, whilst the House of Fraser team of the week was Mark Talbot's Fred Flint-Stones who were reduced to a rubble of 26 points. Changes at the top were minimal whilst those of us who picked all the wrong players are scrambling around on Page Two!

1 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 52 322
2 Disco Barry's 3rd XI Adam Bremner 56 285
2 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 53 285
4 Check This Richard Pert 51 285
5 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 64 283

Week 5

I’m not the Special One like Jose. I’m the Ginger One.” Sean Dyche. Already looking ominous for last year's 7th placed team.

Grant Bucher's 92 points is the prime steak score of the week whilst for the chop are both Mike and Ian Lamb with an identical 24 points. Meanwhile Richard Beach's grasp of top place may be coming to an end - the chasing pack are closing in!! Mike Swanwick is the early backmarker with some selections (Connolly, Dendoncker & Suttner) yet to bother the scorers - five matches and no minutes on the pitch to date. Meanwhile after five mediocre weeks I play my Wild Card.

1 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 52 374
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 81 364
3 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 70 355
4 Bayer Neverlusen Sam Herring 82 347
5 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 74 345

Team name of the week for Man United fans Hanging by a Fred which they certainly are.

Week 6

I'm someone who says what he thinks Paul Pogba.

Crime in multi-storey car parks. That is wrong on so many different levels - Grant Bucher is on the top deck with 77 points whilst in the basement was Heath MacGregor's who was "#parking_my_lambo" for a miserly 29 points. The league leaders shuffle around a little with five now over 400 points. Meanwhile in our first look at the overall ranking team " InSané FC" leads for a second week on 497 points.

1 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 69 443
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 66 430
3 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 70 425
4 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 73 418
5 Disco Barry's 3rd XI Adam Bremner 63 402

Team name of the week For Burnley supporters - Marney and Mee

Week 7

We don't have any problems, apart from the problems we have. Rafa Benitez

Friday night match again so team changes in by 19.00!! Low scorers from Week 4, Fred Flint-Stones are now top dogs with a score of 82 points and a move up of 1,000,000 plus places. The Shih Tzus of the week are Steven Smith's "BS mean BS" with a grand total of 25 points assisted by a forward line of Mitrovic, Firmino and Lukaku who scored a paltry seven points. Possibly BS = Bad Selection?

1. The Beach Boys Richard Beach 63 506
2 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 65 490
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 54 484
4 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 54 472
5 Bayer Neverlusen Sam Herring 67 465

More next time!

Week 8

For me, my players are the best players in the world Nuno Espirito Santo

Another international break and eight weeks in, no Premier League manager sackings as yet. By this time last season they were going down like flies (or Chesterfield FC). At last, after seven weeks, Richard Beach is knocked off first place with Mark Leonard the new leader with the week's top score of 92. Eldar Alizada joins the top five for the first time whilst Dominic Rabbitte is caught in the headlights with his low score of 26.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 92 582
2 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 69 575
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 74 558
4 neftchi Eldar Alizada 81 523
5 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 50 522

Team names of the week for Leicester City fans I predict a Fryatt possibly after Making Emile of it

Week 9

"A five horse race? I don't have any doubt about that." Pep Guardiola

Rather later report than usual, Week 9 was a pretty lacklustre week with every team banded together. The top five teams were unchanged - not surprising as their scores were 38, 36, 41, 48 and 47 respectively. The remaining scores were very much the same in the upper echelons with the only significant move from high scorer in the Mean Machine, Dave Ledger's Beard Hair with a dastardly 77 points whilst Mark Talbot's Fred Flint-Stones chugged along in the Boulder Mobile for a muttley 22 points.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 38 620
2 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 36 611
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 41 599
4 neftchi Eldar Alizada 48 571
5 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 47 569

Finally Team names of the week for Brighton fans - we think Pröpper Good might well describe their performances to date whilst Glenn Murray's form might well be Duffy Duff Dunk Bong.

Week 10

Thoughts are with everyone at Leicester City. A terrible tragedy. Heartbreaking. Gary Lineker.

It's been a week overshadowed by the events at the King Power stadium. So in a effort to extend some levity here's a Halloween joke. Q-Why couldn't David De Gea dress up as a ghost? A Because he couldn't find a clean sheet. In contrast to last week, it was a high-scorer with John Garnett on 92 points the king of the mountains whilst in the valley of despond was last week's top scorer Dave Ledger with a mediocre 33 points. With all his subs injured on the bench, Dave found that he had no replacements for King, Robertson, Sané and Bailly, all of whom failed to appear. Meanwhile the top three teams seem to be opening a significant gap.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 70 690
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 81 680
3 The Beach Boys Richard Beach 65 676
4 Bayer Neverlusen Sam Herring 77 637
5 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 59 628

At the top InSané FC regains 1st spot overall after a couple of weeks in 2nd place - total points 772; so over 80 points ahead of Mark Leonard who currently is in 2,834th position.
