Hi Thomas

We close entries to the League round about Christmas - so this year entries closed after Week 17 - it was mentioned in this thread. This is to prevent managers who have had no interest in the League suddenly appearing at the last minute. If you are completely new you can still start a team to play for the final seven weeks of the season. Otherwise come back in 2019-20 to compete in the strongest chess fantasy football league.

Week 31

"I am not going to change, I will be an optimist and we will do this together." Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointed as permanent Manchester United manager with a three year contract.

This is the time of the season where the fixture list goes to pieces with weeks where a few teams play (only five fixtures in Week 31) and weeks (like the forthcoming Week 32) with multiple fixtures and those with triple captain, free hit, wild card and bench boost chips look to cash in. Consequently Richard Dineley managed to find three players out of his 15 who appeared so managed a miserable three points; Daniel Lambourne on the other hand was one of many managers to use his Free Hit and his top score of 65 points enabled him to make a massive 300,000 place upward move. I hardly need to mention that at the top just 11 points between the scores of our leading five teams - so little change.

1 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 49 1887
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 43 1867
3 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 45 1861
4 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 34 1855
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 38 1842

Meanwhile With only a few weeks to go to the Fantasy Cup Final, I've looked at a team called "watching United" who are in the Week 32 draw. Astonishingly this team has won 15 matches so far - most with single figure margins - no transfers/wild cards used and I'm pretty sure the manager is oblivious to his success!

Week 32

https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/fant ... mes-funny/ Really?

If anyone is wondering (highly unlikely) why this week is late it's because I've been away competing in the English Senior Championship with no access to post on here. Anyway the big news from Week 32 in a week of 100+ scores (average for the week was 73 points) is that we had a new high score for the season of 122 points. Modesty forbids me to say it was the same person who high scored last season with 126 points - okay -if you insist - it was me. Mitchell Burke brought up the rear for the week with 40 points. At the top of the table Mark Leonard's lead was down to just one point - but more on how he fared in Week 33 to follow.

Week 33

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_a_Di ... a_Day_Made

Yes for one whole day (Friday 5th April) Mark Leonard was knocked off the top spot for the first time since Week 8. Alex Sheerin, temporarily, took over until the Saturday results and now once again normal service is resumed with Mark opening a 32 point gap over his rivals and becoming the first player in the League with a 2,000+ score. All the top teams have a "Bench Boost" card yet to play and some have other chips to play. Meanwhile Paul Spiller's fifth place is under some threat. Top score of the week from Richard Beach with 80 pts whilst George Georgiou failed to notice it was a week with reduced fixtures and scored a disastrous five points.

3 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 53 1998
4 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 40 1997
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 53 1972

Overall Adam Levy (New Zealand) has opened a 50 pt gap at the top of the overall table with 2,274 points. This looks to be enough to take the title - but let's see!

Week 34

"I am so proud of the players and the fans.....but football is unpredictable." Pep Guardiola

A third meeting of Spurs & Manchester City beckons this Saturday after a week where Alex McLeish is handed his P45 again. David Moyes is being touted for the Scotland job along with Paul Lambert - two managers who have consistently been unsuccessful of late. Following the advice of "The Scout" I shoved three Brighton players into my team - last week - result no goals scored and seven conceded. Meanwhile the first change in the top five since Week 17; as suggested last week Paul Spiller has lost his fifth place and been replaced by Adam Cranston whose team Ospina Colada scored 79 points; not the top score of the week which was 89 points from Gavin Carter whilst Eldar Alizada's with the low of a mere 24 points. Mark Leonard's lead was cut again by the pursuers but he has shown a remarkable tenacity to maintain that top spot continuously since Week 8.

3 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 56 2054
4 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 48 2045
5 Ospina Colada Adam Cranston 79 2026

Meanwhile Whatever happened to Toni Haapanen? Sole leader of Fantasy Football for 15 weeks and in the top three for 20 successive weeks from Week 10. Now languishing in 60th place, 112 points behind the leader.

Week 35

Champions League? You're having a laugh! Wolves supporters chant on the terraces against Arsenal.

Well it was "Bench Boost" time for those managers with the chip saved and consequently 11 managers scored 100 or more points; all using their "Bench Boost" card. Top scorer of these was Andrew Harley with 120 points; not quite enough to gain a position in the top five. Phil Makepeace was backmarker of the week with 46 points; with no boost left to play he found that his substitutes might have contributed 29 points if they'd been selected. Adam Cranston's visit to the top five was brief and he is replaced by Paul Spiller. The gap at the top is now up again to 27 points. The marked similarities between the top three teams means that the pursuers may need to change players to bridge the gap although third place Robert Ashworth still has his Triple Captain card to play.

3 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 94 2148
4 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 100 2141
5 Sane Mane Happy Days Paul Spiller 98 2107

Cup update We're through to the quarter-finals where ( ͡ಠ ʖ̯ ͡ಠ) meets Bielsabub - both teams now having won 19 games so far!

Week 36

We could go to Old Trafford and win on the final day of the season. Neil Warnock. Probably over by then!

Drama, Drama and yet more Drama as Premier Chess is thrown into confusion with two weeks to go. Plenty of captains had the wrong players at the wrong time. Among them was our lone leader since Week 8, Mark Leonard - in a disastrous week his team scored a paltry 56 points when the average score was 69. Third placed Robert Ashworth cashed in his triple captain chip on Sadio Mané with a resultant 39 point bonus and he now takes over as leader. However possibly the most significant move comes from 2017 & 2018 winner Andrew Harley; scores of 114 this week (Salah as triple captain) and 109 in Week 35 has propelled Andrew to within 27 points of the lead. Can he pull off the most audacious victory ever? The season's top score was achieved this week by Onos Kofi-Ofuafor of 127 points whilst Alex Bullen was in the doldrums with just 37 points.

1 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 94 2242
2 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 56 2237
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 80 2221
4 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 114 2216
5 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 61 2215

Overall We can wrap this one up - Adam Levy (leader since Week 29) will win the 2019 Fantasy Football League,

Week 37

The players did all they could and we can be proud of the whole club. Unai Emery

Woe, woe and thrice woe! The average score for last week was 48 and every one of our leaders scored less with Mark Leonard on just 30 points and although in second place he now trails Robert Ashworth by 22 points with Gareth Yeo, Alex Sheerin and Andrew Harley still in attendance. I'll provide an update prior to Sunday's Week 38 games. Whilst the top teams failed to flourish Lawrence Cooper was Midland Monarch of the week with 82 points and left in the compost heap was Samuel Milson on 27 points.

1 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 47 2289
2 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 30 2267
3 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 43 2264
4 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 42 2257
5 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 37 2253

Cup Final After 20 matches the Premier Cup Final is between Meef's Magic (England) & FC Rickochet(Singapore). The former beat such notable teams as Borussia Teeth whilst the latter overcame Men behaving Chadli amongst others.

Week 38 preview

Alright - it's all over and a report to follow. However let's look at the situation before the results came in. Robert Ashworth who dramatically seized the lead from long time top manager Mark Leonard in Week 36 had established a 22 point lead over his main rival in Week 37. Meanwhile hot on their heels were Gareth Yeo (25 pts), Alex Sheerin (32 pts) and Andrew Harley (36 points). All the managers used transfers in Week 38. Did they work and who actually won we will see shortly.

Week 38

We could go to Old Trafford and win on the final day of the season. Neil Warnock. But it was over by then!

Well here we go! As you can see from the preview, four teams were challenging leader Robert Ashworth. Mark Leonard's disastrous end to the season continued and of the remaining three teams it was Gareth Yeo's "it's Raining Mendy" who mounted the most significant push. As it was just eight points separated the top two teams as Robert just edged out his rival despite a 17 point gap in the week in Gareth's favour. But it could have been so different - just one alternative choice and the Premier Chess Championship would have gone to Gareth. Just as in the League a choice between Manchester City and Liverpool for captain - both managers went with City players - Gareth with Sterling and Robert with Agüero. Had Gareth made either Alexander-Arnold or Mané his captain he would have been champion - it was that close!
Meanwhile flying Etihad with 80 points were Andrew Garside & Rob Ensor whilst in the Ryanair luggage rack was Eldar Alizada with just 24.

1 Pizza Hoedt Robert Ashworth 60 2349
2 It's Raining Mendy Gareth Yeo 77 2341
3 Dreamtreamfc Alex Sheerin 54 2311
4 Harley Whites Andrew Harley 54 2307
5 Pokémon Trainer Mark Leonard 39 2306

Overall winner As we mentioned previously Adam Levy (New Zealand) trounced everyone with a magnificent 2,659 points.
