Rating games played in Simultaneous displays

Can games played in Simuls be rated? I don't see anything prohibiting it in the ECF's "Rules for Acceptance of Games for Rating".

Of course not. Don't be silly. (It should be explicitly prohibited if not.)

This may indeed be a case of "too obvious to need stating", but rules often do state such things just in case.

Rule 4 would eliminate it unless it was a clock simul.
However, simuls also fall foul of 1 which states that they must conform with the Laws of Chess. The person giving the simul is obviously consulting other games.

So is anyone who leaves their board and takes a walk round looking at other boards, but of course there are well documented cases of arbiters moving games on adjacent boards when they have followed the same opening for many moves, so I guess the key word here is 'obviously', which would indeed apply in a simul.

I suppose you can invoke FIDE 12.3

12.3 a. During play the players are forbidden to make use of any notes, sources of information or advice, or analyse on another chessboard.

There are historic precedents where one player has taken a board in two separate matches played at the same venue. I suppose 12.3 could be applied in that scenario.

I seem to recall many years ago at Hastings, although it might have been the British, someone having an adjourned game going on at the same time as an afternoon game.

I did that myself, about 50 years ago. I was playing off an adjournment from a Richmond 2 match at St Bride's Institute on the same evening that our 1st team had a match there. One of our players didn't turn up, so I ended up playing on the vacant board while also continuing the other game. Needless to say, I lost them both.

I certainly remember one example of that at the British, the games were on different floors of the building so the player would have had plenty of excercise.
