With the excecption of one county grader who seems to sit on his hands for months, it would seem nearly everyone is using the ECF LMS either directly or indirectly via their private system. Indeed a game I played last night is already included in my rating whilst county matches played in December and January are still missing.

The Berks results are transcribed from the local LMS. This isn't a major pronlem but I do find one niggle with the way the ECF LMS worls with direct input. The problem is when you find a player in a match who isn't listed for the combination of club and league. Often they have a rating code with the club because they've played in another league or in an internal club competition. All you have to do is then add them to the club roster.

The problem with that is that all the previous input disappears and you have to start again. One work around is to check that all the players are listed under the club before starting the input. Any other ideas? We have a local rule that players are supposed to be added to the local LMS before playing in the League but that's often ignored and long predates the ECF LMS.

Can't you just temporarily enter another player who is listed for the club in the match result and then correct it a few minutes later?

Yes, indeed.

You could also say to yourself:

"I don't recognise that name and I enter match results frequently. I wonder if they are registered on the LMS before I attempt to enter the match card"

I normally just add as New Player and then go back and correct to the relevant player. This also works for players who have not joined the ECF yet and when they have joined add back in. You can run a report for a league for any "New Player Matches" to quickly identify these players.

I find this much quicker than checking all the players are in the relevant list first, especially if you have different lists for competitions than are in the club - for our club we have one tournament with 4 sections and made sense to add players to just the relevant section to make it less error prone and quicker when entering results. If a player was missed for the list or a new player joined the competition then I just follow this process of adding as new result (and is certainly what I would do for 16 or 20 board county match).

The county grader in question must have done the work today - my missing Chiltern League result from December, and the game from January, are now both shown, but not yet with a rating change.
