ECF rating news:

The ECF is upgrading the rating software to improve security and ease maintenance. Today it is changing the submission system. The submission system will be unavailable from 10:30 and should be online again by 2pm.

After the change, if you are using the website to submit files you should not see any difference other some minor cosmetic changes which we hope are improvements. However, there are two situations where improvements to the security of the system which are a side-effect of the way in which the code is being modified will affect the end user.

The process for automatic submission, which was formerly described on the help page, has been made more secure, but it can it is no longer sufficiently simple to be explained in a couple of lines. We have already contacted all the users of this facility we are aware of. If you are using it, or wish to in the future, and have not been contacted please get in touch with us and we can supply sample code for the revised process.

The other change will affect all rating officers (those that can submit directly) who do receive details of submissions made by the ECF LMS or similar systems. The increased security means that it is no longer possible to supply a link in an e-mail which will instruct the rating system to request a new code for an unknown player or match them to an existing player. Instead, the e-mail will contain a link which, once you have logged into the rating system, will take you to a page listing the unknown players in the event, and on which you are able to match them or request new codes.

Is that looking for the same userid and password as

or something else?

Previously I have submitted results via the LMS both for Berkshire league results and internal Bourne End club and not needed any other passwords or userids.

Like others the only notification of the change is what has appeared on this forum.

Those who only enter results through LMS are not affected. There are some who, for instance, use LMS for a league but send internal club results direct to rating; they are affected for direct submissions.

The mailing list is for those with direct access to rating. That mailing list will be refreshed and we'll try to get a process to regularly review it.
