It is with great sadness, I report the untimely death of Sam Playford.
Sam passed away in his sleep this weekend gone, after a short period of illness.
Sam had been a stalwart of Rose Forgrove CC and the Leeds University team for a number of years now - I don't believe he got around the congress circuit much, if at all, and so those that knew him in Chess circles may be restricted to Yorkshire.
Sam was only 23 years old and was just out of university, condolences to his parents and family in this very difficult time.
Funeral arrangements will follow.

Re: Samuel Playford
I was very sorry to hear this news earlier today. I didn't know Sam well but we corresponded a few times when Harrogate played Leeds University and we met once over the board in the Leeds League. I believe he was active on the junior circuit in his younger days and represented Yorkshire at junior level.
He was somebody who had already given a lot to chess and clearly had so much more to give.
