I am sorry to inform you that Trevor Holt sadly passed away on Thursday 27th November 2025. He was in his nineties.
Trevor played for Olton Chess Club in the Birmingham & District Chess League since the 1970s.
A decent player himself, Trevor's main aim was to encourage his late son Phil (passed in November 2022) to play and improve to a high level. He was entirely successful in that goal and Trevor continued to play in the top division of the Birmingham & District Chess League for many years.
Many League players will have encountered Trevor's attacking style. The 'Wilkes-Barre' variation of the Two Knight's Defence was a permanent topic of study in the Holt household. Scotch Gambit, Evans Gambit, French Winawer Variation, anything that gambitted a pawn for an attack on the f-pawn.
Trevor's funeral took place on Monday 5th January 2026 at the Robin Hood Crematorium, Streetsbrook Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 3NL.
It was followed by a gathering afterwards at Hall Green Home Guard Club, 21a Doveridge Road, Hall Green, B28 OLS.

A wonderful outlook on the game I bet he has some sparklers on his C.V.
Here he gave up a pawn to open the f-file as a prelude to an exchange sac on f6.
