The sad news has been reported that the Dutch game designer Christian Freeling passed away a couple of days ago at the age of 79.
Christian was also the inventor of "abstract strategy games" notably Dameo, Havannah, Hexdame and Grand Chess and another Chess variant called Chad.
A Grand Chess tournament was held in Yerevan in 1996, which attracted 21 Chess masters.
There was also a series of Grand Chess Cyber World Championship matches sponsored by the Dutch game site MindSports.
