Camberley has never played at Frimley Baptist Church (Balmoral Drive) but it has played at Camberley Baptist Church (Frimley Road) at the dates you mention.

Thanks for posting the picture, John. I met Anne Sunnucks a few times and played one game with her at the Jersey Open in St. Helier 1975.
I thought she was a very friendly person and it's sad to hear that she died a few years ago and the chess world didn't know.
Some Forumites will recall that this also happened to D. John Rogers of the BCCA and eventually the news was posted here, so this is a good service to memorialise old friends and opponents.

Stuart Johnson and myself met up with Anne after Stuart was contacted around 2005/6 as she was shedding some of her old chess equipment stock which included oddly a box of cricket balls. I remember a lot of Lino chess boards. We visited about three times and both her and her husband were very kind hosts. We got tea and biscuits. The house was huge with paddock and tennis courts. They were in the process of selling the house in Menston (as you hit the Moor) to move into a retirement complex down south. They were moving in together with the Pritchards. She did mention getting a cancer diagnosis. I still have the blitz timer.
PS. I even asked her if she wanted a game for White Rose and that's when I was told about the cancer.
Like Mike Haygarth it’s very sad to learn of a chess players death some time after they passed on.

May I query "48 Brackendale Close"? I have found three sources, 1976-1979, which gave "28 Brackendale Close, Camberley" as the address of BMS Chess Supplies. These include Leonard Barden's chess column in the Financial Times of 4 December 1976, page 4.
Her chess shop was on what is now Duke's Ride, Crowthorne, but I couldn't say between what years she had it.

Yes, 28 is correct. I was going on memory from when I was last there in 1980 ! Should have checked.

I'm not able to do that without visiting Brackendale Close which I might do over the Easter break. I did not take the photograph.

This is very sad news in two different ways. I remember the 1956 British Championship in Blackpool, where we both attended a cocktail party - as a 17 year old it was my first and hosted by the Council. Anne and I chatted for some time.
Such a major figure for such a long time to go unnoticed after her death.

It is also worth noting that she was an occasional contributor to the weekly chess 'Magazine' programme which was broadcast on the Third Network (the precursor to Radio 3) between Autumn 1958 and Summer 1964.

Thanks for that. I assume that no programnes have survived as the BBC liked to recycle both audio and visual recording tape.
Radio 3 is the successor station to the BBC Third Programme which began broadcasting on 29 September 1946.[7] The name Radio 3 was adopted on 30 September 1967 when the BBC launched its first pop music station, Radio 1[8]:247 and rebranded its national radio channels as Radio 1, Radio 2 (formerly the Light Programme), Radio 3, and Radio 4 (formerly the Home Service).
Radio 3 was the overall label applied to the collection of services which had until then gone under the umbrella title of the Third Network, namely:
the Third Programme proper (as launched in 1946, an evenings-only offering of demanding cultural fare, both musical and spoken)
the Music Programme (a daytime service of classical music)
sports coverage (chiefly on Saturday afternoons) and adult educational programming in the early part of weekday evenings (known as Network Three).
All these strands, including the Third Programme, kept their separate identities within Radio 3 until 4 April 1970, when there was a further reorganisation following the introduction of the structural changes which had been outlined the previous year in the BBC document Broadcasting in the Seventies.

In the entry at
chessgames.com to which Geoff refers I spelt Sunnucks correctly. The typo is down to Geoff
