Bryan Fewell

Post by Michael Flatt » Mon May 20, 2019 1:06 pm

Dear All

I write to inform you that Bryan Fewell passed away on Wednesday 15/5/19, following a long battle with dementia.

As you may remember, Bryan was a dedicated chess player, and as far as I am aware, he was President of HCA for many years, and also, as far as I remember, on the Board of Directors for the BCF, as it was then.

His funeral will take place at 11am at Harwood Park Crematorium, Watton Road, Knebworth, Herts on Monday 3 June.

Regards

Dave Fewell (Son)

Bryan was indeed a long=seving member of the BCF Management Board, conecrning himself principally with administrative matters.
i have asked Alan Martin to prepare an obituary for the ECF.

He made a considerable contirbution to the workigs of the federation in the 1990s.

That is a shame - I played him at Hastings over 40 years ago, and we continued to have friendly exchanges when we were in the same tournament again. He was a hard worker for chess.

There is an an obituary here:

https://www.englishchess.org.uk/rip-bryan-fewell/

But that is dated 21st May.

Stewart wrote on 24th May that he has "asked Alan Martin to prepare an obituary for the ECF".

Is that a reference to a longer obituary, or is the one posted on 21st May the full obituary?

Christopher, the one you have pointed to is updated today. Andrew Walker just didn't change the date on the message. That displays 31 May. There will now be little more to add.
There may be other comments from today's funeral, or people may post other comments here.
