Tony Bill

Tony Bill, a former member of Harrogate Chess Club, died recently. His active involvement with the club ended some years ago when he left the area but he kept in touch with chess friends locally and, when he visited Harrogate, would join us in the pub for friendly games as well as attending club social events. He was only an occasional match player but did make the odd appearance in the Harrogate league and on one occasion the Yorkshire League. When Sarah Longson played a simul in Harrogate a few years ago Tony was one of two players to defeat her. He was a great character and will be missed.
