He was always a great encourager of people; a good Arbiter and an astute judge of character.

A sad loss for the chess world. Amongst his many activities, for many years David was a great arbiter for the National School Chess Championships Finals at Uppingham School.

Condolences to his family and friends. He was an instantly recognisable figure and an excellent arbiter. He will be greatly missed.

We now have the funeral details for Dave. It will take place at Landican Crematorium, Arrowe Park CH49 5LW at 12 noon on Friday 6th December.
Afterwards we will go to the Grove House Hotel, Grove Road, Wallsey CH44 4BT for the wake where there will be drinks and a substantial buffet.

Very sorry to hear this, Dave acted as chief arbiter at all of the Leeds congresses we ran before it folded, I always found him extremely kindly, informative and patient with my lack of knowledge in all matters related to running a tournament.
