I have been informed that John Pakenham passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday 9 February. He was taken ill and went to hospital shortly after Christmas/New Year. He will be missed by Warley & Quinborne and the wider chess community. He was current President of the MCCU. I met him several times at MCCU meetings and at MCCU congresses held at Rycroft Community Hub, Walsall and I know that the union will miss his sage counsel. I've heard from the secretary of John's club that the Funeral service will take place at Sandwell Valley Crematorium on Friday 13th March 2020 at 1.45pm.
