The sad news has just been announced on the Welsh Chess Union website that Brian Heath has died on Friday 15th May, after a long illness.
Brian was a former player, junior chess teacher and also former Welsh Chess Union Executive Director.
He played for Cwmbran Chess Club and was also runner up in the Welsh Chess Championship.
Brian also ran and taught a large and successful junior chess club at Fairwater High School in Cwmbran, South Wales.
Thoughts are with his family and friends.

Good to see Brian A Heath on the ECF List of Obituaries. Brian joined the Newport (Wales) club in 1961/62. He was an Industrial Chemist, employed by Monsanto, Newport, in his early years, and later joined Suflex in Pontyminster.
He was a regular player for our First Team for several years, and participated in the Monmouthshire/Gwent Championships.
Always a keen player, and I visited his home at Bettws, Newport, on several occasions.
Know that he travelled into England for Chess Tournaments, much to the annoyance of his wife, who resented being a Chess Widow.
Brians love of the game, made up for routine playing strength, which was usually around the 1750/1800 mark.
Travelled to several Tournaments with Brian, and it is wonderful that he is remembered on this Forum. RIP Gordon Cadden
