It is with great sadness that I have to report that Hugh Price passed away earlier today at the age of 94.
Hugh had been in a care home with various illnesses. He died peacefully in his sleep.
He was associated with Cardiff Chess Club for over 70 years.
He coached many juniors over the years who have become very successful.
He played in many tournaments across the UK. I have played him myself on a couple of occasions.
He was a great gentleman and will be remembered in Wales and beyond.
He will be greatly missed.

This is a very sad day for all of us in Cardiff. The WCU website, quoted above, underestimates Hugh's longevity with the Cardiff Club. He joined in 1938 and played his last game in September 2018.

His influence won't be measured in mere years served, He was still coaching into his early nineties, at which time his mind was still razor sharp, though his manner was always amiable and his words diplomatic.

Rest in peace, Hugh.
