Robert Togneri

Post by Simon Rogers » Fri Nov 06, 2020 4:47 pm

I am sorry to report that Robert Togneri died on Saturday 25th January, aged 81.
He was in hospital since just after the new year.
His funeral took place on Saturday 8th February.
Robert was long-time stalwart of Stirling Chess Club, playing for them in the Central League in Scotland.
He gave great service to both club and league as an administrator. He was club secretary as well as league secretary. He later served as club treasurer and also club team captain for many years.
Robert also played in the Scottish Championship back in the days when you had to qualify to play.
At Stirling Chess Club, Rob made his match debut in April 1964, playing his final game for the club in October 2019, 55 years later.
When the club became aware that he had achieved 50 years of unbroken membership, he was made the club's only life member. One of the club's tournaments was renamed the Robert Togneri trophy.
There is a lengthy but excellent tribute on the Stirling Chess Club website.
