I am sorry to inform you that Geoff Stokes has died on Friday 6th November aged 89.
He passed away in Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield as a result of an internal infection (not Covid-19).
It was announced on the Leamington & District Chess League website on the 29th November.
The funeral takes place tomorrow (4th December).
Geoff joined Solihull Chess in 1950 and played for them until 2019.
He played in the Leamington & District League and the Birmingham & District League.
There is an excellent tribute by John Green, Secretary of Solihull Chess Club on the Leamington & District League website, along with the funeral arrangements.
The tribute talks about Geoff's chess career playing for the county first team alongside the late Ritson Morry and Keith Ingram and also his academic career including Cambridge University.
Worth a read.
RIP
Geoffrey Stokes
