Steve Wozniak

Post by Simon Rogers » Thu Dec 17, 2020 6:09 pm

It is with great sadness I have to report the death last month of New England Chess Club member Steve Wozniak.
He was in his mid sixties and had been ill for a number of weeks in hospital (not Covid-19) where he passed away.
The funeral took place Tuesday 15th December and he was cremated at Bretton in Peterborough.
Steve's uncle taught him to play Chess.
He was a keen member of New England Chess Club and played for various club teams in the Cambridgeshire County 550 League, the Cambridgeshire League Division 1 and Division 2 and the Fenland Knockout Cup.
Originally Steve lived in Lancashire until he was 20, then moved to Werrington, Peterborough.
Outside Chess, Steve was an excellent Sailor. After taking up the Challenger Class, Steve finished 4th place in the UK Championships and in 2019 won the Don Newton Cup at the UK Championships for most improved sailor.
There is an excellent Obituary on the Challenger Class Association Community Facebook page dated 24th November. There is also a tribute and picture on the New England Chess Club website.
Thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
RIP
