Post by Simon Rogers » Tue Jan 12, 2021 5:35 pm

I am sorry to inform you that Malcolm Peart has died.
It is believed he passed away earlier this month, at the age of 88.
It was posted on the Yorkshire Chess Association website by Peter Cloudsdale along with an excellent tribute and picture on the 10th January.
Malcolm had long been associated with Scarborough Chess Club, but was not a native of Scarborough.
He was born on 25th September 1932 in the village of Messingham, near Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.
He then moved to Louth, Lincolnshire and then Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
Malcolm first played matches for Scarborough Chess Club in the 1982-83 season. He served in various club official roles.
He played for Scarborough in the Woodhouse Cup in the 1980s and later in the York League.
Malcolm played a number of times in the Scarborough Chess Congress and in 2001 came 1st-3rd equal in the Major Section.
In 2009, he won the Scarborough Club Championship at the age of 76.
Thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates at this sad time.
RIP
