In the second death of a Nottinghamshire chess player in a week, Alan Groves passed away on 22nd March.
Grass roots chess depends on the likes of Steve Swanwick and Alan Groves, neither of whom was a strong player yet they served their clubs as loyal and reliable members over many years. Alan had been in poor health for a considerable period yet he played for the Nottingham Gambit Chess Club for decades, the grading database showing a complete set of results back to 1994. In addition he was a member of the Nottinghamshire Under 100 team. I understand that the Gambit website will be including a tribute shortly which I will link to this thread.

Alan was always cheerful and good humoured; he will be greatly missed at Gambit. R.I.P. Alan.
