The sad news was reported that Viktor Zheliandinov died a few days ago. There has been a number of tributes on Twitter by GMs who he coached.
Viktor was born on 17th March 1935 and passed away on 24th July 2021 at the age of 86. He was a Soviet-Ukrainian chess player, International Master and coach.
Viktor was awarded the Master title in 1962 and was Soviet Army Champion in 1966.
In 1967 he drew against Mikhail Tal and then won the Belarus Championship in 1970.
In 1999 Viktor was awarded the title of International Master and his strongest win came with black against the Turkish-Bosnian GM, Suat Atalik (2575).
Viktor coached many GMs and IMs apprentices including Vassily Ivanchuk, Marta Litinskaya-Shul, Mateusz Bartel and Vitali Golod.
Viktor also assisted the rise of former world champion Anatoly Karpov.

Was a strong player (as with anybody who ever played in a Soviet Championship final) but an even more notable coach and trainer.
