I am sorry to inform you that Alan Reid passed away a couple of weeks ago, at the age of 85.
Alan was a stalwart member of Basildon Chess Club in Essex , even going back to the 1970s when he played for Laindon.
Alan maintained his chess playing standard right up to the end and was competing in the club's U1800 Championship, in which he had a perfect score of 3/3.
As a mark of respect, Basildon Chess Club have made the decision to close the competition and award the 2021-2022 U1800 Championship to Allan in his memory.
RIP
Allan Reid
