Another person whose passing needs mentioning. David Alan Smith passed away in June 2023. A long time member of Cleveland chess association and Middlesbrough chess club. In his best days a 200+ (ECF) grade player who, as a junior represented England. A classical player of the old school. David stopped playing in 2010 aged 67, at that time he had a grade of 180. Another stalwart of Cleveland chess association who will be missed.

Very sorry to hear of David's death. I knew him near his peak, when we were both at Sheffield University. He was a strong and dependable colleague.
