Some further sad news is that Larry Marden has passed. He was a colleague at the Athenaeum Chess Club, but will have been better known as a longstanding member and team captain of Wanstead and Woodford Chess Club.

Please let Mark Murrell ([email protected]) know if you wish to attend, so he can advise the family of numbers.

A fitting, warm tribute is given on the wesbite of the Wanstead and Woodford Chess Club.

Yes, I played Larry a few times. A very nice man, and an Essex stalwart - he would seemingly travel to all the away matches by train, which certainly showed commitment (especially when playing Sussex...). Condolences to those who knew him better.

More sad news - he was always pleasant.

Sorry to hear this. Larry and I were regular team mates in Essex County teams over many years and we also played on opposite sides in a number of Writtle v Wanstead clashes in the Essex League. One of the good guys.
