One of the strongest Serb/Yugoslav players back in the 1980s, and a former Yugoslav champion.

IIRC was due to play Hastings one year (circa 1980) but got called up for national service not long before it started.

Sad news.
I played him only the once. He introduced me to his beautiful wife and two pretty daughters. She had studied at Cambridge.

And a cute coincidence occurred during our game!

17) Scotland The Brave
In November 1985 I played a tournament in Bor, Yugoslavia. During the first few days of the event I found myself smiling over the memory of an incident from the tournament that I had played in in Lewisham in late 1982. Keith Arkell had gone to the loo and had left his watch at the board. To everyone’s amusement it began to play Scotland The Brave, in a high key. My first round game vs Slavolyub Marjanovic was postponed until the first rest day, about the fourth day of the tournament. Accordingly there were far fewer spectators than usual, perhaps no more than half a dozen.
At one moment two men entered the auditorium and stood at the top of the stairs. To their evident embarrassment and consternation the watch of one began to play Scotland The Brave in a very similar way, if not an identical one, to that of Arkell.
I do not recall ever hearing a watch play that tune on any other occasion.
