I am sorry to inform you that Kevin Steele passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on 28th March.
Kevin played for Andover Chess Club in Hampshire for over twenty years. He was also a regular player for the Hampshire county team. Kevin regularly helped the beginners and juniors at his club.
I played Kevin at the Blackpool Chess Congress back in 2015. He was a solid player and he wheeled out his usual French Defence, and the game ended in a draw.

I was shocked to hear about Kevin passing, after playing against him in the SCL in January this year. As stated Kevin played for Andover and Hampshire for many years, and was part of the team which won the U140 National title in 2013/14 season (he won his game in the final).

He was very pleased to break the 1800 barrier last year, as this was one of his chess targets. Thoughts are with his friends and family on his passing at only 51.
