Reported on the Hungarian Chess Federation website.

A top GM in the 1970s and 1980s, playing Candidates matches against Short and Korchnoi along the way.

Bit of a shock, that one.

Sad news. He was 62. Google translate of the Hungarian report seems to indicate it was a heart attack.

Great to hear from you, Jim. However: Candidates Wijk aan Zee 1991 (Plus rapidplay play-off)? Short not Sax, I think!

Just for the record:

Korchnoi - Sax 1991 +2 =7 -1 after a rapidplay play off

Short - Sax 1988 +2 =3 -0

It seems there were 15 candidates at that time, with 7 preliminary matches, joined by the top seed (Karpov in both cycles) at the qtr final stage
