Post by JamesGallagher » Wed Oct 05, 2016 10:17 pm

It is with great sadness that Liverpool chess club announce the passing away of a club legend in Frank Ryan. Frank passed away peacefully and without pain at home on Tuesday evening.
Frank has been a member of Liverpool Chess club for over 40 years and has been present almost every week throughout that time during which he won the Liverpool table tournament and helped Liverpool win the first division title. Only last season Frank was Liverpool first teams top performer win 9.5 points from 11 games
Here is Frank Ryan's game against 11year old Nigel Short back on 25th June 1976 at the Manchester Congress
Frank (white) won against Nigel Short French defence

Frank was present in the club only 4 weeks ago and was his old self in every way. His passing will be a great loss to our club and our deepest condolences go out to his wife Doris and his family

With Mr Welch in the background if I'm not mistaken?

A nice photo, and a nice tribute. Not many people get to beat Nigel at any age.
