Ken Wyld (December 1st 1942 - May 30th 2017)

Post by John Upham » Fri Jun 02, 2017 11:07 am

Ken Wyld, former Berkshire Chess Champion (1977), Basingstoke CC secretary and AWE stalwart, died last Tuesday. He had been graded as high as 174 and was a former Battle Of Britain Knockout Finalist. He was twice married, keen on cricket, table tennis and cycling.

He had known his clubmate, Roy Ashmore, for over 60 years. And they still helped each other with transport. He had battled with complex illnesses in his last years. I hope there will be a trophy in his memory. :(

Not to be confused with chess historian Ken Whyld (1926-2003). Were they related?

Their surnames are spelt differently but they did share the same forename so you might be on to something.
