Stan Cranmer
I am sorry to report the death of Stan Cranmer who passed away yesterday aged 87.
Stan was playing congress chess at venues across the country until quite recently; he played his last club match in December. He was a prolific postal chess player and the winner of the British Under 150 Championship in 1998. He will be missed by his many friends both in Nottinghamshire and across the country.

Very sad news. I remember him from my time playing in the Combined Services championship. A very nice guy and a good sense of humour.

Re: Stan Cranmer
I saw Stan in chess action several times and admired the standard of his play and his sporting approach. My condolences go to his family and to his friends in the Ashfield, Notts and wider chess community. There is an interesting and informative obituary on the Notts website: http://nottschess.org/2017_18/stan_cran ... tuary.html

I haven't played Stan but I have tracked his games on the BCCA & ICCF website where we both play correspondence chess.
My deepest condolences to his family!

My acquaintance with Stan didn't exactly run deep, but I recall having a friendly chat after I lost a 4NCL game to him in 2009. RIP.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I played (and lost) against Stan in the 2005 combined chess championship and remember him as a very pleasant person. RIP.

With other members of Ashfield Chess Club and Long Eaton Chess Club, I attended Stan's funeral today. Stan was a true gentleman of chess and will be missed by his family and also his many chess playing colleagues, Donations were for the RNLI.
