World Senior Teams Ch, Krakow 2024

Post by Tim Harding » Mon Mar 04, 2024 2:49 pm

Ireland is close to finalising its teams for the upcoming World Senior Teams Championships in Krakow, Poland (1-12 July).

We intend to send three 65+ teams and one 50+ team but we still have a vacancy for one strong IRL-qualified player in the 65+.

We belatedly noticed that UK-based FM Andrew Philip Smith is now qualified for 65+ but have no contact details for him.
I don't think he has played any Irish tournament since about 2013 (when he beat me in the City of Dublin championship).

Andrew, if you are reading this, or if any reader knows his email, can you please PM me on this Forum or email [email protected].

I plan to update my Seniors pages at www.chessmail.com later today (5 March).

Never mind, thanks for trying. Early responders assisted by email and PM, and we have Andrew signed up long ago.

ECF call to action with a link to how to apply
England will be sending its largest ever delegation of 42 players, to the World Senior Team Chess Championships (WSTCC) in the wonderful city of Krakow, Poland from 1st-12th July. As things stand, we will be fielding a total of nine teams, with the England 50+ 1st team being an all GM line-up, led by 50+ World Champion Mickey Adams, and the 65+ 1st team also having a very strong line-up of GMs and IMs, led by 65+ World Champion John Nunn. There is still time for interested England senior players to join one of the teams and be able to watch our top teams in action.

The closing deadline is 10th May and we are still considering further applications to join one of the England teams, so if you are rated over 1800 and aged 50 or 65 or over on 1st January 2024 then you are eligible

The qualification date for age groups is 31 December 2024 not 1 January surely.
Anyone born in 1959 or earlier can play in the 65+ in FIDE senior events; anyone born in 1974 or earlier can play the 50+.

Or are ECF making their own restriction here?
