ENGLISH SENIORS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

Post by Ken Norman » Thu Oct 03, 2013 10:22 am

The first championship in 2008 was won by Andrew Whiteley.

The winner of 2009???

The Winner of 2010 ????

The 2011 Tournament was a four way tie between Oliver Jackson, Ken Norman, Michael Yeo and George Dickson.

The English Chess Federation Yearbook does not contain a list of the winners of The English Seniors Chess Championship.

Does anyone know who won in 2009 and 2010?

Ken,

On the ECF website , if you click on "resources" on the left hand side, there is then a "records and history" section, under which there's a British Champions list, which is in reverse chronological order.

Although it's easier to look at the list on here, compiled by John Saunders:

http://www.britbase.co.uk

Edit: oops sorry mis-read English for British! Will bow head in shame and not cross the border for a while.

It's well hidden!

The archive of the ECF site comes up with this:-
http://www.englishchess.org.uk/more-from-the-seniors/

so 2010 Oliver Jackson

For 2009, there is this reference from a Manchester event
106 competitors attended the 2009 Bolton Easter congress, held at the Excel Centre. .... top board Richard Beach (Stockport), the English Senior Champion.
2009 Richard Beach

Results were probably also reported in ChessMoves but that's not open to on line search. Results may also be available through the ECF grading site. The FIDE ratings site should have the results as well, but results against players without ratings are liable to be missing.

The English Seniors is a completely separate event - didn't Neil Graham organise these in Derbyshire?

Richard Beach won one year I think
Any postings on here represent my personal views

The tournament feature on the grading site implies it to have been shared in 2010 between Oliver Jackson and Norman Hutchinson.

Thanks everyone for the information.

2009 Richard A. Beach

2010 Oliver Jackson and Norman Hutchinson.

Perhaps we can persuade the ECF to include a list of English Seniors Champions in the yearbook.

Excellent News.

The E2-E4 Website is now accepting entries for the English Seniors Championship.

The tournament has the normal arrangements for a senior’s event.

One game a day with play in the afternoon.

The time limit of 40 moves in 90 minutes followed by 30minutes to finish the game. Plus a 30 second increment from move one.

This is the standard time control for senior events. It was used at the World Seniors Championship in Croatia last November and will be used at both the European Seniors Championship at Oporto in March and the European Seniors Team Championship at Sibenik in April.

Thank you to Sean Hewitt for organising this event.
