John Nunn playing! Nailed on favourite for world champion. Guess he'll be a bit rusty though.

That event seems to have popped up from nowhere without any publicity.

I thought John was born in 1955.

It's over 50 now.

Looks like a very nice event, and was announced in March. I hope they get a lot more entries.

"It's over 50 now."

so it is - Don't know how I forgot that as the change annoyed me...

Assuming you mean Mark Hebden, I can't see his name on the list of entrants. I'm sure you know more than me!

But.. wow! Nunn back playing again. No doubt he'd be the overwhelming favourite if it was the same John Nunn at the time of retiring. John Nunn of now.. well, we'll have to wait and see!

Would Kasparov fancy coming out of retirement...

chess results says Nunn's rating is 2602. Where does that come from? Surely he is unrated after all those inactive years.

Great to see him back, anyway. An inspiration to all those born in 1955.

Not unrated, just marked as inactive in the FIDE rating database.

John Nunn's FIDE rating record:

http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=400017
http://ratings.fide.com/id.phtml?event=400017

Last change in rating was for the October 2006 list.

Garry Kasparov's FIDE rating record:

http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?event=4100018
http://ratings.fide.com/id.phtml?event=4100018

Last change in rating was for the April 2005 list.

(Though I see GK became a FIDE Senior Trainer in 2009).

Some names from the past there. Bouaziz played in the 1967 Sousse Interzonal, the one that Fischer walked out of. Looking up his history, I see he was still young enough to play the 1969 World Juniors, the one where Karpov first became known to Western players.

Obviously there are some very impressive names of active players who could be in the field. Krasenkow, Beliavsky, Rozentalis, Timman, Nikolic...

I wonder what his opening repertoire will be. English Attack / Najdorf /Modern Benoni?

He did play in the Delancey Blitz at Richmond a couple of months back but no games seem to be available. However, given the distance between him and the rest of the field he seems in fine form!
