Looks like a very good round for our gallant quartet. Chapman has halved with Bouaziz, while Nunn, Arkell and Hebden all seem to be winning.

Is it just me, or has John been quite lucky?

Maybe so. Wasn't watching with an engine but I did wonder whether Kristiansen might have missed a better defence but Black's king was always going to be a problem.Mike Truran wrote:Is it just me, or has John been quite lucky?

Can't argue with you Nick! After all, you've seen me in action often enough in the Oxfordshire League to know.

Mike Truran >Is it just me, or has John been quite lucky?<
I don't want to derail the thread, but I don't believe in luck in chess. If a player plays one bad move that negates a number of good ones.
Dictionary definition of 'luck'. Fortuitous happenstance beyond one's control.
You realise, as a retired professional poker player, I have strong views on luck.

Not looking quite so rosy today, sadly. John has lost, Keith looks lost, Mark is worse.

John's resignation looks premature if the Chessbomb gamescore is correct..

Looks a clean exchange gone from here? With it being an 11 round event and only one rest day the extra rest is probably more useful than the chances of pulling off some remarkable swindle

Wow. Not an obvious candidate move! Mind you, I guess if someone was going to find it OTB.....

Re: World Senior Chess Championship S50
Still horrible after Bh6 though. b4 will drop and W has 2 Bs, just technique for a GM. But even I agree that it was a bit early to give up.....

Stockfish gives 20..Nb8! 21.Bxd8 Rxd8 as the best defence. If 20.e4 dxe4 21.Bxe4 Bc6 22.Bxc6 Nxc6 23.Nb5 Bg7, blacks position is fully playable. Better is 20.Nc5 Bc6 21.a4! when white is winning.
