Round 7 under way. Slovakia already agreed a quick draw on board 2 - with Black this time.
Early days on boards 1 and 3 but the Thueringen player on board 4 is clearly better (9.50 GMT).

Any news on what the individual pairings are for the England 1-Germany clash? I presume both teams put out their strongest line-up? In the Slovakia-Thuringen match, I would think Ftachnik should win that surely?

Agreed, think Thuringen might win on board 4 though so it might well come down to whether Thuringen can hold on Board 3. White is clearly better but like most R&Ps it looks difficult to convert. http://www.schachfestival.de/world-seni ... games.htmlChristopher Kreuzer wrote:In the Slovakia-Thuringen match, I would think Ftachnik should win that surely?
PS looks like it might have gone a little array on board 4, not sure that's winning anymore.

Ftacnik has won. The German on board 4 went wrong with Kf1. Houdini suggested 36 Ng4, and earlier 26 Qg7! would not have allowed the counter-chances Black obtained in the game. So Slovakia have basically won the championship I think.Chris Rice wrote:Agreed, think Thuringen might win on board 4 though so it might well come down to whether Thuringen can hold on Board 3. Pairings are not available on other boards until they put up the full results of the round in the afternoon.
In the 65+ Russia lead Finland 2-1 and are two pawns up in the ongoing game.

As of 1315 GMT there is still hope. Petran (conqueror of Keith) has messed up the ending and now has N+1 v N+2, good chances for a Thueringen win. Paehtz is battling very hard and his R ending against Timoscenko may be vital for the whole tournament. I fear that White can win it. He has more time. They will soon be down to the 30-second increments,
Oh no, Brueggemann didn't play 52 f5!!. He had to sac the knight: 52...Ng7 53 f6 Ne6 54 Ke4! Kxc3 55 Kd5 with a tablebase win.
Petran can probably draw now.

Re: 2015 World Senior Team Ch 24 Feb-4 Mar
Oh dear, England lost to Germany with three draws and a loss on board 4. England lead a pack of 5 teams on 10/14 in the chase for the bronze medals. Scotland (who play Germany) and England 2 (who play some other German team, as do England 1) are in that pack as well. So it is a question of whether one of the three British teams (England 1 and 2 and Scotland) can get the bronze medals ahead of the 'other' German teams. England 2 have played Germany and Slovakia already, so could well finish strongly and/or paired against Scotland/England 1 in the final round?

Tischbierek has definitely been the villain of the piece from England's point of view.

Let's hope one of "our" teams can get the bronze at least and that lessons are learned for next year.David Sedgwick wrote:Some things just aren't meant to be.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Oh dear, England lost to Germany with three draws and a loss on board 4.
Good news on the standings for board prizes: Jim Plaskett with 6-1 leads board 2 by a full point.
The only other player with 6-1 is Tischbierek on board 4.

Great that we can get "instant" results from the website .... my browser helpfully translates automatically - so Plaskett's opponent appears as "Stephan Accountancy" - rather than Stephan Buchal ... I wonder if the Germans are seeing Nigel Kurz or something similar on Board 1?! John DM Nonne. Terry PD JungeMenschen ... Oh the list is long (love the idea of the singer Elizabeth Blackhead btw)

Yes, but to the extent that there are any deep lessons to be learnt. There might not be. At least it is hard to tell when we haven't seen their recent games, including especially today's. It may be nothing more than the misfortune of an out of form player on board four, perhaps combined with early morning starts (which really is a bad idea in general terms and might not be repeated outside Germany). Admittedly I am only surmising that the early starts are affecting us more than our rivals - but somehow it wouldn't surprise me if this were the case.Tim Harding wrote: ...

In retrospect one would have had Plaskett in the team instead of Keith but that really is using the benefit of hindsight. Keith might still do better next time around.
Let's just hope there is a next time with another strong team. I am sure it will go better.
