I see that recent days have brought some clarity to the schedule of seniors events next year. From the FIDE and ECU calendars it can be seen that in order the upcoming events are:

12-20 July 2015 EU senior teams 60+ in Vienna)
9-22 Nov 2015 World individual 50+ and 65+ in Acqui Terme, Italy

NOW ADDED (dates of first and last rounds subject to finalisation by host federation):

18-27 April 2016 EU senior teams, Eretria, Greece. (Where the EU individual was held recently to great acclaim by John Nunn etc. Sure to be a great event with Nikos Kalesis in charge.) I think they are switching to 50+ and 65+ but maybe this is to be confirmed?

25 May-5 June 2016 EU senior individual in ARMENIA but no actual venue yet stated.

26 June-4 July 2016 are the new dates for the World Senior Teams (50+ and 65+) at Radebeul, just outside Dresden. (This event had originally been scheduled to start 28 Feb.)

18 Nov-1 Dec 2016 World Individual at Marianske Lazne, Czech Republic

If anyone has more information please post it here.

I shall be trying to coordinate efforts to raise Irish 65+ teams for the 2016 events and we need somebody to coordinate the 50+.

Yes, this is the second (and probably final) change of venue, since a few weeks ago they were saying it would be in Porto Carras (also in Halkidiki).

There is also now a PDF online for the World Teams at Radebeul (just outside Dresden) in June/July:

At a more domestic level, it appears the 2016 English Seniors is to be held as part of Stewart Reuben's Colin Crouch Celebration Chess Congress. Five rounds only, from Monday 4th April to Friday 8th April.

It's at the Harrow High School in North West London, 40/90 + 30 with 30 second increments and a daily start of 2:30pm.

As it is now more than three months since the last Seniors post, I would like to mention that there are so far 19 entries for the English Seniors Championship at Harrow, starting 4th April. This compares favourably with Sunningdale two years ago (winner Steve Berry). I have not looked up how many entered last year (winner Ian Snape).

I am glad to see the traditional 60+ qualification retained. Let's hope that the event is now safely a permanent fixture after some gaps since the inaugural 2008 championship (winner Andrew Whiteley).

14 players entered last year, with three more playing as fillers.

Is there any news of teams from England, Scotland or Wales for the EU and World Seniors this summer?

For the first time in one of these events, there is to be an Irish team - in the World 65+ tournament at Radebeul.
Hope to see some of you there...

I am now apparently eligible to enter the Seniors events (at least the 50+) and looking forward to next season! Some of the European and World events look very attractive.

To answer Tim's Qs at 24/3 above (Scotland only):

1. EU teams (April): one 50+ plus two 65+ teams

2. EU individual (May-June): as yet no one I know of

3. World Teams (June-July): no teams as yet and so far limited interest.

I wonder why Scotland prefers the European event - is it the Greek climate and food, or not wishing to miss the soccer in June?

Anyway Ireland has for the first time entered a team in one of these events (in the 65+). So far there are 36 teams in the 65+ competition.

They are not in seeding order yet and some teams listed are incomplete.

The 50+ entries are on another tab; still there are two more weeks before the fees increase and more entries can come in.
Still no English (or Welsh) teams listed.
The most famous player so far is GM Yusupov.

I would prefer the European event, if I were eligible, because beside those reasons the Greeks are civilised people and don't make you get up at the crack of dawn to play your games.

I'm not keen on the early start either but the dates didn't suit most of our team and the Worlds are more prestigious.

The good news is that the Greeks will run the World Senior Teams in 2017 and the EU Senior Individual will be in Barcelona.

The bad news is that the 2017 EU Teams will be in Serbia and the World Individual in Venice.
I know the latter sounds like GOOD news - but it's not if the organisational team is going to be (as is likely) the same awful crowd who made such a terrible job of last November's event.

That sounds great and I hope it happens. If so, look out for competition from Bernuda.
