These championships begins at Radebeul, near Dresden in Germany, on Sunday 26 June.
I'm looking forward to seeing some old friends and rivals there.

There are now 59 teams entered in the 50+ with England (Nunn-Speelman-Hebden-Flear-Arkell) second seeds.

Maybe the German organisers can round up an extra team to avoid a bye.

In the 65+ there are now 52 teams as Tunisia have entered to improve the intercontinental flavour somewhat.

There doesn't seem to be a chess-results entry for this event yet but the official website including list of entries (which could vary up to the captains' meeting) is at:

So they have managed to do better in world representation than the first one in Isle of Man in 2004. Then we only had 12 teams 60+, but a team from Australia and one from South Africa and a couple of Indian players.
Now there is Canada, Afghanistan and Tunisia. England have 30 players in 6 teams, 3 50+ and 3 65+.

So the seeding is Iceland 1 England 2 - hopefully at the end it will be England 1 Iceland 2 that has a more familiar look to it :(

I see England 50+ are playing Slovakia (John Nunn has drawn) and 65+ are playing Russia, so it does seem like the football, but hopefully with better results

Its very strange the live boards show the colours the wrong way round and I was watching it thinking its a typical Keith game but this time its his opponent who is working hard to convert the rook and pawn ending to a win just like Keith normally does

Pity the 65+ lost by the same score to Russia, although presumably that's quite a good showing based on the strength of the teams?

Top pairings tomorrow in the 50+ are:
Emmanuel-Lasker-Gesellschaft (led by Yusupov) v Iceland
England 1 v Germany 1
Canada v Armenia (on table 4 as the top women's match is always shown live)
ALSO:
Rochade Bielefeld Revival v England 2
Scotland-Austria
SG Gera/Meuselwitz v England 3

AND in the 65+
Sankt Petersburg v Russia (likely to decide first place)
Belgium 1 (the only other team to have won all their matches) v Germany 2 (who have 5 match points)
ALSO:
England 1 v Sweden 2
Ireland (on 3 match points so far) v Sachsen-Anhalt (who have an IM on top board)
Sweden 3 v England 2
England 3 v Vienna 2

You have to play 6. Kf1. Plaskett had played 5. .. Bb4+ back in 1981.

Nunn winning, Speelman much worse, Hebden and Flear level.
