It's worth celebrating another great Scottish result in the 50+ today against a team about 200 points higher on every board.
David Findlay and Rosemary Giulian in particular are having a very impressive tournament.
Tomorrow they are in match 12 against Sachsen-Anhalt.

Also after a bad patch the Irish won today.

Nunn & Speelman have both won, Flear has drawn and Arkell looks well placed to make it 3.5-0.5 (colours are the wrong way around on boards 3 & 4). No score in Armenia-Germany but Canada lead the Yusupov team 1.5-0.5.

Keith Arkell won so 3.5-0.5 and several of the English players remain in contention for board medals as well as a chance of team bronze/silver.

Yusupov's team won 2.5-1.5, Armenia-Germany is showing as 0-0 but I'm fairly certain that Armenia must have resigned board 1 by now.

Armenia-Germany finished 2-2 so England remain in 4th= place with Germany on 13, Armenia & Emanuel-Lasker-Gesellschaft on 12 and England 1 & 2 on 11.

:D

Board 1 - Plaskett 6/7 2550 performance - Nunn 5.5/7 2593

Board 3 - Hebden 5/6 2585
Board 4 - Arkell 4.5/5 2616

We might be better than 4th if Keith had played all 7 matches

Not an easy draw, but hopefully we will pick the right team and get the right result

Good luck to all our teams

Hi guys, thanks for the forum support during the event.

I can report that just for a change I was the first to finish today rather than the last!

Margeir Petursson has been playing very well ( 2637 performance!). We are floating down to play the top seeds, and If we can avoid defeat we will be playing for a medal in the last round.

Plaskett playing a remarkable game against Vaganian. He has created something out of an old line which was believed to go nowhere and, to judge by the clocks, has made it all up at the board from move two!

Seems to be cashing out into an ending a pawn up. Computer wanted him to keep pressing with 20.Rhg1.

I have good news: the soccer result has been avenged!

Boards 2, 3 and 4 were drawn, while Jonathan Speelman did the biz on board one v Hjartarsson :-D

Loz is referring to us resting top board John Nunn today. Captain Glenn Flear was solid with Black on board 4 v Arnason

And Jim won, Vaganian absolutely bullied.
