Is the Dublin event in January 2018 open, or restricted to IRL players?

The English, as opposed to British, Championship events seem to have been discontinued.

They haven't made this entirely clear.
Irish residents who are not IRL-registered (we do have quite a few of them these days) can enter but not win the title(s).

On the ICU website they say: "If you are traveling from abroad and have never been an ICU member before - you can enter..." but I am not sure if that's for the Irish diaspora or anyone.

I will ask ICU officials about this at the weekend when the Irish blitz and rapid championships are on.

I got confirmation that overseas enties are welcome. Anybody can enter though the titles are only for IRL-registered players.

Overseas players will need a FIDE reg number (FIN) and maybe to pay an Irish Chess Union membership. Check with the organisers.
The venue looks like a good hotel; not sure what terms they are offering.

The FIDE calendar now shows a change of date for next year's World Team Championships 50+ and 65+ in Germany.

Instead of 30 June-8 July the dates (of the rounds I think) are now 7-15 July.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the World Cup soccer, but it now means the chess event won't start until the knock-out round of 16 is complete.

However the German senior calendar still shows the originally announced dates.
I expect this will be clarified at the World Senior Individuals next month.

Leaflets about two of next year's events have just been handed out in Acqui Terme.

The World Senior Teams 2018 will indeed be at the same venue as 2016 (Radisson Blu, Radebeul, just outside Dresden) with nine rounds from 7-15 July.

The individual World Seniors will be at Bled, Slovenia from 17 Nov (arrival day) to 30th. 11 rounds from 18th-29th with rest day and excursions on the 24th.

When I get back to Dublin early next week, I will post all the information on my website and give the link again here.
