Fingers crossed; if the clock times on chess24 are to be believed, we have time advantages on all boards which might help

Plaskett appears to have bamboozled his opponent with a nice little swindle! (18...Ne4 etc.) Nerves are a funny thing when faced with the prospect of downing a GM! His opponent found Rxd6 but twice missed (or rejected) Rxe6. Strange game. Plaskett will probably win this now.

EDIT: And his opponent has now played Rxe6, but at the worst possible time. England will be 2-0 up very soon (Speelman also winning).

Will probably win all four.

Let's hope the team can come to a quick decision as to how drops out for the final day, since they are all in good shape.

I suspect that the decision will be who takes black on 3 with Jon and John having rested in recent rounds and Keith scoring heavily on 4.

Nine rounds, isn't it? So a win in round 8 would guarantee a medal, and if the USA can beat (or draw) with Lasker, then England 1 would be leading going into the final round. Surely England 1 will play Germany 1 in the final round?
Early signs are encouraging for the USA with both whites looking promising and the black's comfortable. England's only concern is Jim seemingly missing 17 Rxd6 winning a pawn but hopefully the others can cancel out and overcome the potential damage on that board. Board 1 is certainly promising but I won't tempt fate by talking up our chances too much.
Jim has won to give us a 1-0 lead. Never in doubt :D

Jon has also won to put us 2-0 up. One draw in the USA match but an American overall victory looking very likely.

3-0. Funnily enough, White was in a kind of zugzwang at the end (Keith's game).

The Americans have done their job for us, albeit a bit too well. Shouldn't complain, England will have matters in their own hands tomorrow, but only a win will do.

As a matter of fact, I like the chances of the revised team.
Still do.

In the 50+ the top six matches are all decided though a few games are still on as I write.
England lead with 15 MP from USA on 14 and Lasker 13 MP.
Only Germany-1 and Canada are on 12 MP. so ENgland will play GER-1 and presumably USA (as they should be paired ahead of Lasker) will get Canada.

So the Lasker club will get a team from the MP11 club which currently has Austria, Grobenzell and Russia Women but there could be more by the end of play.

Russia Women have won their gold medal because their 11MP cannot be equalled now that Germany Women-1 have lost in this round,

Ireland 50+ will be on live tomorrow as they have 10MP after beating USA Brothers. Krishan J'wala still playing against Delaney,

Russia have clinched the 65+ with an eighth win while their St Petersburg pals held Germany-2 to a draw. Second and third up for grabs tomorrow.

UPDATE on the Ladies: Second and third for the women is up for grabs. Maybe England Women are in with a shout for bronze (or even silver?) after drawing with Norway while England-3 are helping them (currently lead Germany Women 3 by 2-1). Germany Women-2 lost again and are out of it.

England are leading the event in match points. We are winning 3-0 against Schachfreunde. Even if Mark Hebden were to lose (and he is probably winning) we would win the match and thus have 15/16.
Similarly the USA have beaten Lasker, although there is one game continuing. So they have 14.16.
This is the first time England have led going into the last round. If they win tomorrow probably against the strong German 1 team, then they England win. If they draw and USA wins it will depends on game points.

Trivial pursuit question. Which English player here has previously been a member of a winning World Team Chess Championship and what was the event?

England win 4-0 and USA 3.5-0.5. Parings to follow.
