I feel a bit foolish for not realising that Vera Menchik was a widow at the time of her death. I'd assumed that her husband had outlived both of his wives.

The V1 was an early form of a cruise missile.

An interesting article but surely two of the pictures are of Vera's younger sister, Olga? They looked very different to each other!
