Following the success of last year’s event in which 180 players of all ages took part and donations in excess of £10,000 were raised for Asthma UK, we will be holding the 2nd Michael Uriely Memorial Chess Tournament at Westminster Under School on Sunday May 7, 2017. This will mark Michael’s 11th Birthday and we are once again looking to bring together Michael’s greatest passions: friends, chess and sport.
As in last year, the tournament will be split into three sections, designed to cater for all levels, children and adults alike. The games will not be graded for ECF or FIDE thus giving all entrants the opportunity to play and compete in a professional yet friendly and stress-free environment.
The sections are:
1. Minor (non-graded players / up to 80 ECF Grade)
2. Major (81-130 ECF)
3. Open (131 ECF and over)
Last year more than ten Masters, IMs and GMs played in the Open section, alongside very promising young players and other chess veterans, as well as complete beginners, and we look forward to some great games this year too across all sections.
There will be 5 rounds and players will have 25 minutes each plus 5 seconds a move for the whole game.
All players will play in all games – it is not a knock-out competition.
Details of upcoming UK events, please provide working links if possible.
