Any updates?
.....now that every thing is on hold.
Government announcement due at 6pm. Looks like a delay to plans.

Strictly speaking unless the government locks down tighter I don't see any impediment barring psychological to holding our planned events in Golders or 4NCL.

Any idea when we can expect the 4NCL to confirm, delay or cancel the congress?
Thanks.

What we need is two chess players to get married and hold the reception as a five-or-six-round swiss over the weekend when the limit of 30 people at such an event is lifted

With hindsight, Alex and Lara getting married earlier this year was a missed opportunity!

They didn't get married. They entered into a civil partnership.

They could still save the Northumberland Congress or the Scarborough Congress by getting married at that time.

Or even organise a quick divorce in between and save both.

Good news:
25th 4NCL Congress on 9-11 July at Woodland Grange, Leamington Spa

Based on guidance from Woodland Grange and from Guaranteed Events we expect to proceed with the 25th Congress as planned. As numbers are likely to be restricted, we will be giving entry preference to people who have booked accommodation via Guaranteed Events, and hope to send the entry form link to those people in the next few days. Should restrictions be eased before the congress such that numbers can be increased nearer the time, or should we still have spare capacity after those booking accommodation have (or haven't) entered, we would hope to extend entry more widely.

"Good news:"

Not sure why this is good news.
Rightly or wrongly the Government has asked the nation to be patient for 4 more weeks whilst the danger of the new variant is assessed
When you consider all the lives and businesses this is affecting , surely OTB chess is of little importance at the moment

Maybe we should just forget OTB this year and hope to get back to more normality in the New Year

You can forget about it if you want, why should the rest of us?

You are right, chess is not a primary target of Boris's Gatling gun, just ancillary damage. His aim is the destruction of every small business which relies upon face to face contact. However, if you still believe in normality early in 2022, you may be in need of a further dose of reality.

"You can forget about it if you want, why should the rest of us? "

That's fair comment
Obviously everyone will make their own judgement on the situation.
Maybe I can re-phrase my last sentence to :
Personally I have decided to forget about OTB chess at the moment and will re-assess the situation in the New Year

Exactly the same could have been said in June 2020.

"Exactly the same could have been said in June 2020."

Maybe this is the whole point Roger
We are 1 year down the line , the UK vaccination programme has been by most measures been very successful, but we seem to be no closer to normality as far as OTB chess goes.

But isn't there at least an argument that we *should* be?

And indeed OTB activity *has* already resumed at several clubs, including my own.
