At the Tunbridge Wells Congress the Pyson organiser mentioned that a Thanet Congress is being planned but it is expected to be in the Autumn and in Thanet. There were no further details.

I'm not sure I'd expect Thanet and Dundee to have much potential overlap in entry base. 4NCL is a bit of a more important clash.

My humour is evidently too dry for this forum. It’s not my event, and the clash is not my responsibility, but Thanet is a long way even from the 4NCL events and the overlap fairly small. Mike Truran is naturally opposed to clashes with his 4NCL, but it seems quite ordinary to me that events at the extremities of these isles should choose a 4NCL weekend.

For much of London and the South East, Thanet is about equidistant in travelling time to 4NCL venues. October is a very crowded month already, not helped by the ECF moving the English Championships away from the Spring and Summer.

I guess it depends on what you think a Congress is. Taken as the premier tournament for people in rural Kent, you’re wrong about the Thanet Congress. Dudley is an awful lot farther to go for a weekend’s chess for people in Kent outside the M25, about three times the travel time by car.

I would be starting from west of the M25 and south of the M40 so it would be about the same travel time for me. On a different weekend I might be interested in the trip to Kent, but I have already indicated my availability for the first 4NCL weekend.
