Playoffs (2 games): 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment
If still undecided, Armageddon game 5 minutes v 4 minutes with 2 secs increment / move
from move 61.

not that I am finding it easy to do so. presumably Harvey isn't thinking for 8 minutes (or more) at move 53?Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 7:25 pmseemingly so, I must make a point of watching the play-off!

next game already, so presumably first was drawn and no one stopped Black's clock or noted the result (on chess 24)?

Hasn’t it already finished with Marcus white and a draw?

I believe that alcohol is frequently recommended in these situations.

You were referring to Marcus Harvey losing the Armageddon game he only needed to draw, having had a winning position (e.g. failing to play 41.Rxc2+), then managing to lose?Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2019 9:06 pmI believe that alcohol is frequently recommended in these situations.
I'll quote the lone comment at Chessbomb on the game:
Dare I ask how much prize money Harvey might have got if he had won? (Though beating Adams would have been the real prize.)Wow, black had a winning edge and also a completely drawn endgame and blew it in time pressure.

RegulationsWinner: £10000
Runner Up: £7500
Losing Semi Finalists: £5000
Losing Quarter Finalists: £2500
Preliminary Round: Please see below
If any match is decided only by playoff games from the Quarter Finals onwards, then the
loser will receive 35% of the prize money at stake (the difference between winning and
losing) for that round and the winners’ prize money will be reduced accordingly

This thread is perhaps in the wrong section, but more than a touch of drama in Jones v Howell yesterday?

results
Howell v Adams in the final; it's an interesting format which has kept drama in the matches until the end
