It is wrong.

There is a cost for ECF grading, which Brent will still pay, which is waived if the relevant players are ECF silver members.

The additional surcharge for FIDE rating a Rapidplay tournament, on top of ECF grading a Rapidplay, is a whopping £0. The only cost is the time spent sending the rating files to the IRO.

We tried telling him this several years ago, and after many emails the message got through such that everything was FIDE rated. It seems to have now not got through again.

On the basis of published participants and pairings, Adam Taylor is going to be a bit overworked this morning!

Women and UK-based Under 25s get free entry to the festival events, because CSC's charitable objectives are specific about Under 25s and women.

I guess the reason for the British Knockout Preliminary Round being composed this way is because of where the money is coming from.

I think that's a no given 16 players and 9 rounds.

The 8 players in the Knock Out are the 5 who were the ENG team in the Olympiad and European Championship plus 3 qualifiers out of 16 invited players who took part in a 9 round Swiss rapidplay today.

Yes I'm sure that's the case, Alex. I don't want to fight a one-man crusade about this, hence my whimsical emoticons, but the day may come when it is considered as much out of order to have a policy of giving an invite to a 24 year old ahead of, say, an equally qualified and equally ambitious 42 year old, solely because of his age, as it is today to have a policy of giving an invite to a man ahead of an equally qualified and equally ambitious woman, because he is a man. Or ditto re colour of skin.

But,as I said on my Facebook wall, in my own case it's swings and roundabouts given that I got a wild card entry to the Isle of Man World Championship Candidates qualifier ahead of numerous players significantly stronger than me

Anyway it was a nice event, played between many young friends of mine, and I'd like to see the qualifiers play their very best chess in the next phase.

He seems to be giving a good account of himself so far at least. I wonder if moving very fast vs everyone means he's less likely to get nervous? He must be full of confidence from yesterday.
