Checkmate Covid-19

Post by Thomas Rendle » Thu May 21, 2020 12:51 pm

There doesn't seem to be a thread for this excellent event yet. It's a 24-hour event hosted on Chess.com - details can be found at: https://www.englishchess.org.uk/checkma ... red-cross/

I'll be there for some of it (not all 24 hours!). It would be nice to win a Leicester City shirt to wind up a friend who supports Aston Villa.

Sounds like a chess version of the Le Mans 24-hr. race.

There's been a remake of the old Steve McQueen movie recently. I doubt it will be as good, though. (They don't make 'em like they used to.)

To continue the sporting theme - an old chant from Stoke went, "Up the City, down the Vale". To annoy your friend even more you could adapt it, Kevin.

Ah yes, Leicester City and the Villa. I was there in 1976 when Chris Nicholl scored all 4 goals - in a 2-2 draw http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/aston_vi ... -1976.html

I'm going to drop in as well. It will be my first event since April 1995.

There's now live coverage for the whole 24 hours with lots of different players streaming their games. I'm not sure this is a complete list, perhaps more can be added when found!

All but Matthew and Natasha are streaming on twitch so to view the streams just add www.twitch.tv/ before the name of the stream you want to watch. For example I'll be streaming from 5pm at www.twitch.tv/im_trendle

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Is there a link to this which is correct; the one on the ECF webpage only directs to a 2hr Arena?

I just lost on time as my computer froze and I thought "will he ever move?" then it suddenly said I'd lost! I'll try again later.

I did enjoy logging in and I tried to send a cheery message before we started and chess.con said I wasn't allowed to as mine was a new account and they wanted to prevent abuse. Well, that's a sure way to get it...

That's been a frequent experience for me on chess.com, but not so far on lichess, hence I usually play Blitz or Bullet on the latter.
