Well the form does ask for date of birth in addition to name, address and phone number ...
I used Edge and Opera. Perhaps the problem is at my end but everything else has been working normally for me. I'll leave it to others with more knowledge of internet protocols to comment further and will enter using the 20th century method :)

It's not you, it's them.

Ian beat me to it, but in addition to what he pointed out when you go to the ssl version of the site (https://scarboroughchesscongress.org.uk/) you can see that the certificate is not valid, because it has not been issued for the appropriate host (as I would demonstrate if I understood how to insert an image here). I think that most browser/AV combinations would warn about this.

The level of danger is probably about as severe as being overheard on the train to Scarborough discussing your new opening tactics

Given that the entry form collects: name; date of birth; address; and email address as mandatory fields and sends them in clear text, I think the level of danger is a little greater than that.

"The only way for websites to "supply ownership information" would be through a secure connection and an "Extended Validation Certificate" which will cost a few hundred USD and upwards per year at the relevant certificate authorities: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_ ... ertificate"

They should be able to ask their ISP to implement https as well as http relatively easily.

I have no idea why date of birth is asked for. Anyone concerned can enter 01/01/xxxx. I would be happy with that.

Where the site will be hosted from November onwards has not been decided as far as I'm aware.

The ECF grading system has a habit of demanding it. It might be dangerous to input a phantom but plausible one given the risk that the real one might be overwritten.

If not full date of birth, a Congress may need month and year of birth when it has special prizes on offer to those above or below a particular age.

I was assuming the correct year of birth would be given. I should have been more explicit.

It hasn't been updated for quite some time so I suspect the true number is in three figures or v close to it

Are you coming to Scarborough, Tim?
It will be good to finally meet you.
I've noticed you have entered the Northumberland Congress in a couple of weeks time.
Is there a reduced entry limit for Scarborough?

So you're a Scarborough virgin.
Don't worry I go to the Scarborough Congress every year. It is the best. I can recommend some great places to eat.
I might be bringing a Scarborough virgin with me this year.
